Sixteen students took the National Wood Flooring Association’s Intermediate Installation school at Galleher Corporation in San Jose, Calif., March 21–24.
Students learned how to incorporate design elements, including borders and a herringbone pattern, into a wood floor and sharpened their nail-down, glue-down and floating floor techniques.
The school was led by NWFA Regional Instructor and owner of Blackhawk Floors Inc. (Scottsdale, Ariz.) Jason Elquest. He was joined by Steve Lima, MAPEI Corporation; Dale Asp, Sound Seal; Roger Barker, Fortifiber Building Systems Group; Tim Martino, Bostik Inc.; and J.P. Pierre, Galleher Corporation.
The students were Guven Akarsu, Menlo Flooring and Design; Robert Benjamin, Robert Benjamin; Jaime Chacon, Chacon Flooring; David Craig, A1 Flooring Inspections; Alexandre Gorelik, Alexandre Gorelik; Michael Inbody, Inbody's Hardwood; Sean James, SJ Hardwood Floors; Colton Larson, Gaetano Hardwood Floors Inc.; Joseph Meyecic, Kapalua Floors; John Neuman and Jon'Anthony Neuman, Neuman's Construction; Bill Powell, 123-Floor Inc.; Randal Sisco, Quality Floor Covering; Stephan Thompson, Thompson Hardwood; Harry Tran, Hi Tech Hardwood Floors; and Marcus Aven, Green Life Construction.
University-level sponsors—companies that donated $3,500 to NWFA education in 2016—were 3M, Advantech, Bona US, Bostik Inc., DuraSeal, Titebond, Lägler, Loba-Wakol LLC, Middle Tennessee Lumber Co., Primatech Inc., Wagner Meters and Weyerhaeuser Company.
Academy-level sponsors—companies that donated $1,500 to NWFA education in 2016—were Allegheny Mountain Hardwood, Basic Coatings, Delmhorst Instrument Company, Fortifiber Building Systems Group, Mannington Mills, MAPEI Corporation, Rubio Monocoat, Rust-Oleum Corp., Somerset Wood Products Inc., Timbermate Group and Woca USA.
Other companies, including WD Flooring, Graf Brothers, Millennium Builders and Monarch Plank, donated materials or helped set up the school.
