Complete Flooring Supply (CFS), a hardwood flooring manufacturer based in Shanghai, China, announced plans to open a facility in Calhoun, Ga., and hire 100 workers, according to a report by the Times Free Press.
The company will invest $30 million to purchase and renovate a 98,000-square-foot former carpet mill in Calhoun and plans to begin production by the end of the year, producing hardwood, cork, engineered wood and laminate flooring products. Complete Flooring Supply currently imports products from its factory in Shanghai, and operates a customer operations center in Suwanee, Ga., with distribution centers in Georgia and California, according to the Times Free Press.
The announcement, made July 23, follows a proposal from the Trump administration to impose 10 percent tariffs on Chinese-made hardwood flooring products.
Bin Liu, vice president of Complete Flooring Supply, told the Times Free Press the company received help from the Georgia Department of Economic Development in selecting the site and developing the plans for the facility.
“We firmly believe that Georgia is a great place to do business,” Liu said.
Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal also said the facility will be a benefit for the company and the state.
“As the gateway to the Southeastern market, Georgia will provide CFS with the skilled workforce and strategic resources needed to expand its customer base and maintain its competitive edge,” Deal said.
