Hardwood flooring imports grew 44% in the U.S in 2018 to a value of $74.7 million, according to the International Tropical Timber Organization.
Imports from Malaysia were up 79% during the year as imports from China grew 71% and imports from Brazil jumped 50%. Hardwood flooring imports from Indonesia dropped 20%.
“Assembled flooring” (engineered wood flooring) imports grew 11% in 2018, with China and Indonesia recording the largest gains. Engineered hardwood flooring imports from Brazil decreased 71% year-over-year.
Hardwood molding imports, valued at $177 million, declined 4% in 2018 as imports from Canada declined by more than 20%.
