Sanding Equipment Catches Fire at High School

A piece of sanding equipment caught fire in the middle of the night at a high school in Marshall, Minn., the Marshall Independent reports.

The fire was contained to the unspecified piece of sanding equipment and did not get hot enough to set off the sprinkler system above it, according to the report. Firefighters responded to the fire alarm at Marshall High School that went off at around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, and quickly put out the flames.

There were no injuries, but the school sustained some smoke damage from the fire, which filled the gym area with the smell of smoke.

The school’s gymnasium is in the midst of being refinished following water damage to the floor, according to the report.

The gym floor refinishing is continuing and expected to wrap up Aug. 16.
