The American Hardwood Export Council released the translated list of hardwood products that will be impacted in the latest round of tariffs imposed by China on U.S. products.
The tariffs, which will affect $75 billion worth of U.S. goods, will be enacted in two phases; the first round began Sept. 1 and the second is scheduled to begin Dec. 15.
Flooring products listed in the new tariffs include softwood flooring strips (5% beginning Dec. 15); softwood, edged or planed flooring (5% beginning Dec. 15); bamboo veneer and sheets of wood under 6 mm (10% beginning Dec. 15); bamboo flooring strips (5% beginning Dec. 15); and other non-coniferous wood floor strips (5% beginning Dec. 15).
Following China’s announcement of the new tariffs, President Trump implemented the first phase of 15% tariffs on a planned $300 billion worth of Chinese products Sept. 1 (the second phase is scheduled for Dec. 15), and has said he will raise existing tariffs on $250 billion worth of Chinese products from 25% to 30% on Oct. 1.
