
The first lady has been overseeing renovations to the historic room, along with restorations to other portions of the White House, according to USA Today.
The historic oak floors of the East Room were installed in 1903 during the Theodore Roosevelt administration, according to the White House Historical Association. The largest of the White House’s State Rooms, the East Room was designed to be a “public audience room” by James Hoban and George Washington, according to the association.
