Mexican crime gangs have become increasingly involved in the illegal timber trade in Chihuahua, a northern state that borders the U.S., Reuters reports.
The crime organizations have displaced communities and used intimidation and threats to force laborers to work as loggers in the illegal operations.
The report found that the amount of illegal wood harvested in Mexico is equivalent to about 30% of the wood harvested legally.
