Construction Industry Adds 158,000 Jobs in June

The construction industry added 158,000 jobs in June, continuing to grow from the 453,000 jobs added in May, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). Year-over-year, construction employment was down 4.4%. 

The construction unemployment rate for June was at 10.1%, with 962,000 construction workers idled. It is the highest unemployment rate for the month of June since 2012, according to AGC.

AGC reported the employment gains during the month were concentrated in homebuilding, with scattered increases in nonresidential building.

In April, the construction industry lost nearly one million jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
