September new home sales fell 3.5% from August to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 959,000, the U.S. Census Bureau reports. Compared with September 2019, new home sales are up 32.1%.

Regionally, year-over-year new home sales increased 34.8% in the Midwest, 27.4% in the South and 49.7% in the West. New home sales in the Northeast declined 5.9% year-over-year.
The median sales price of new homes sold in September was $326,800, with an average sales price of $405,400.
The estimated number of houses for sale at the end of September was 284,000, a 3.6 month supply at the current sales pace.
