Construction employment fell in 234, or 65%, of 358 metro areas year-over-year in September, the Associated General Contractors of America reports.
Stagnant employment numbers were reported in 38 metros, while 86 metro areas added construction jobs year-over-year.
An AGC survey of construction firms found that 78% of respondents report they are experiencing project delays or disruptions due to COVID-19.
“Construction firms are experiencing widespread project deferrals and cancellations, along with disruptions to ongoing work and few new project awards,” AGC stated.
The survey also found that 42% of firms are experiencing disruptions due to material shortages, and 35% because of a shortage of craftworkers and/or subcontractors.
