A fire that broke out on a large slash pile at a Dolores, Colo., sawmill could continue to burn for months, according to the Dolores Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
The fire was called in the evening of Dec. 11 behind Aspen Wall Wood Inc., which manufactures wall paneling and flooring, along with firewood, pallets, crates and wood chips, according to the Colorado State Forest Service. The cause of the fire is unknown, but the fire department stated signs point to spontaneous combustion.
“It will burn for an undetermined amount of time, but most likely months,” the department stated on its Facebook page. “This fire could have gotten out of hand and could have been a lot worse had dispatch not received those calls.”
