Floor sanding equipment manufacturer FG Floortec, based in Bischofswerda, Germany, is entering the U.S. market. Wood flooring pro T.J. Haas, based in Syracuse, N.Y., is the sales agent managing the U.S. sales, and FG has set up a warehouse and office in Syracuse.
FG machines have been in the U.S. market in a limited capacity previously, but “we’re basically introducing them brand-new to the U.S.; this is their first formal foray into the U.S. market,” Haas says.
The first machine available to the U.S. market is FG Floortec’s Taifun edger, which is a variable-speed edger with three extension lengths: 5-, 8- and 13-inch. “It’s almost 3-hp, so it’s very powerful,” Haas says. “With the variable speed, if you get into sticky finishes or a real heavy sap wood like pine, you can turn the speed down so it doesn’t destroy your paper. If you get into prefinished flooring with aluminum oxide, you can throw a piece of 36 on it and crank up the speed.” Haas also uses the edger for finishing with a high grit at high speed.
In the future the company will also import its vacuum systems, a planetary machine, buffers and 8- and 10-inch belt sanders, as well what Haas says are the company’s “unique tools” such as a corner router. Also available will be the company’s deck brushing machines, which Haas says are the company’s best-selling equipment worldwide and can be used for deck refinishing as well as lineal wire-brushing of interior wood floors.
Those interested in purchasing the equipment or becoming a dealer for the FG equipment should contact T.J. Haas at (910) 316-0549 or via email. Haas is also managing parts support for existing FG machines in the U.S.
