After contacting a metal detectorist, the family had the rumor confirmed—along with $46,000 in cash.

The family searched the house for years before reaching out to Keith Wille, a Connecticut-based “metal detectorist/treasure hunter,” Boston.com reports. Wille—who filmed the discovery in a video that has since gone viral—searched the home’s attic with a metal detector, which led him to a corner of the room. He snaked a camera through the cracks of the floor and identified the rumored box. He removed two floorboards to retrieve the box, which was filled with cash dating from the 1930s to the 1950s and totaling $46,000.

The cash appears to have been withdrawn in 1958, according to the report. Adjusting for inflation, the cash would have been worth around $421,000 in 1958.
