The surge slowed compared with April, however, which recorded a 60% year-to-date surge in hardwood plywood imports.
Hardwood plywood imports from Vietnam increased 108% year-to-date in May, down from an increase of 183% in April. Imports from Russia slowed from 51 million square feet in April to 26 million square feet in May, still up 23% year-to-date, however.
Hardwood plywood imports from Malaysia jumped 70%, and Indonesia and Canada registered increases of 46% and 22%, respectively.
