U.S. Hardwood Plywood Imports Jump 45% in May

U.S. imports of hardwood plywood increased 45% year-to-date in May to a total of 1.7 billion square feet, an analysis by the Decorative Hardwoods Association showed.

The surge slowed compared with April, however, which recorded a 60% year-to-date surge in hardwood plywood imports.

Hardwood plywood imports from Vietnam increased 108% year-to-date in May, down from an increase of 183% in April. Imports from Russia slowed from 51 million square feet  in April to 26 million square feet in May, still up 23% year-to-date, however.

Hardwood plywood imports from Malaysia jumped 70%, and Indonesia and Canada registered increases of 46% and 22%, respectively.
