WFB Briefs: Construction Employment Rises in 306 Metros; Craig DeWitt Wood Substrate Webinar

Construction employment increased in 306 of 358 metro areas year-over-year in January, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America. “This report shows construction has been growing nearly everywhere, with jobs being added in 85 percent of metro areas,” stated Ken Simonson, AGC’s chief economist. “Despite a decline in homebuilding, contractors in many markets are likely to have trouble finding enough workers to undertake more projects.”

Dr. Craig DeWitt will lead a webinar discussing wood substrates as related to flooring and flooring issues. The event is scheduled for April 28 at 11–2 p.m. CDT and will cover types and characteristics of floor joists, beams, supports and subfloor panels, along with moisture issues. Registration is $100. Registration information can be found here. DeWitt is president of RLC Engineering LLC in Asheville, N.C., and has a PhD in engineering and specializes in wood, moisture and indoor environments.
