The construction industry needs to hire over half a million additional workers in 2024 in order to keep up with the demand for labor, according to an analysis by the Associated Builders and Contractors. The additional 501,000 workers needed is on top of the normal pace of hiring.
Based on historical data, ABC estimated that 1.9 million construction workers will leave their jobs in 2024 and an estimated 2.1 million workers will enter the construction industry.
“While construction employment is growing, it is not growing fast enough to meet the demand to complete the work on the books for 2024,” stated Michael Bellaman, ABC president and CEO
More than one in five construction workers are 55 or older, according to ABC.
