Flooring Distribution Group (Denver), the network of wood flooring distribution companies that spans the United States, will shut down all of its Lockwood Flooring and Cascade Pacific Flooring locations effective March 29.
The closures impact all three Cascade Pacific Flooring locations in Oregon and Washington and all four Lockwood Flooring locations, which include St. Louis, Mo.; Lenexa, Kan.; Omaha, Neb.; and Grimes, Iowa. The closures will affect 37 employees, who were notified on Feb. 28.
“We greatly appreciate the dedicated service these individuals gave to our group of companies as well as the tremendous support of our many customers,” Doug Hamar, president and CEO of FDG, said in a statement shared with WFB. “This closure decision was made to allow us to focus on other divisions and operations within our group located across the U.S.”
A memo to employees listed March 8 as the final day to take customer orders, March 15 as the completion of order fulfillment and March 29 as the closure date.
“Our decision has been made with great difficulty,” stated the memo from Keefe Jaten, general manager of Denver Hardwood Co. and director of distribution operations at FDG. “As a result of continued declining sales and the challenges of the current economic climate, we have had to take the tough step to close these two FDG Divisions to consolidate our resources and therefore strengthen our remaining operations.”
FDG also operates North Georgia Flooring Distributors in Marietta, Ga., and Alpharetta, Ga.; Denver Hardwood Co. in Denver and Colorado Springs, Colo.; Rio Grande Distributors in Albuquerque, N.M.; and Bison Hardwood in Arlee, Mont.
