Colombia’s Deforestation Fell to Historic Lows in 2023

The Colombian government reported the country’s lowest deforestation rate recorded in 2023, decreasing 36% from the previous year, according to The City Paper.

There were 79,256 hectares deforested in 2023 compared to 123,517 hectares in 2022, The City Paper reported.

The reduction in deforestation is attributed to the Ministry of Environment’s Deforestation Containment Plan, which has increased armed forces in areas of increased illegal logging and criminal investigations into the matter, The City Paper Reported.
