When homeowner Clayton Carson set about to install new floors in his new Springfield, Mo., home, he came across a historical discovery, according to a KTVI report.

As Carson and his friend Brandon York of Cornerstone Flooring began pulling up the flooring, they found a subfloor of old business signs.

The brightly colored subfloor features advertisements for Ford, Brooks Potato Chips, Hoover’s, Murray & Kent Insurors and more.

“We went from working pretty quick to vigorously trying to clear it out of the way so we could actually see what all was underneath it because it was … very, very literally uncovering treasure for sure,” Carson told KTVI.

Carson and York shared photos of the floor on Facebook, where community members shared their knowledge of the signs. The two think the signs are seat backs to old bus stop benches.

Carson intends to remove the signs, keep a few and donate the rest to a local historical society.Subfloor3Brandon York
