The European Parliament approved a 12-month delay of the European Union Deforestation Regulation, Reuters reported.
The EUDR would ban the import of products linked to deforestation, such as lumber and products made from them, coffee, rubber and cocoa. Its implementation has been pushed back until Dec. 30, 2025 for large companies and June 30, 2026 for small enterprises.
In its decision to delay the legislation, the European Parliament also an amendment to add a new category of countries deemed to pose “no risk” of deforestation in the legislation’s country benchmarking system. This category would impose less stringent requirements on countries classified as “no risk.”
