The residential construction industry lost 7,400 jobs from April to May, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Year-over-year, the residential construction industry lost 1,000 jobs.
The construction industry as a whole added 4,000 jobs from April to May and 126,000 jobs compared with May 2024, representing a 1.5% increase.
The construction unemployment rate decreased to 3.5% in May. Unemployment across all industries remained unchanged at 4.2%.
