Spontaneous combustion of a large pile of sawdust from a wood floor refinishing project caused a residential fire Friday in Monroe, Conn., according to a Facebook post from the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department.

In the early morning hours of Aug. 15, a person alerted volunteer firefighters to flames on the front porch of the home.

Firefighters quickly put out the fire before it extended to the house, the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department said.
