WFB asked followers on Facebook and Instagram if they got to spend one day on a job site with any wood flooring pro, who would it be? Here’s what they said:
Chuck Kutchera
I’d have to say Ralph McSwain (RIP). He always said he’d rather be in the field than the office.
Jim Kramer
My grandpa. I miss having mallets thrown at me.
Kris Jeter
Dave Marzalek, but here's a plot twist: I wanna be a fly on the wall. Job conditions are that nothing is going as planned. I keep bugging him through the day because, well, I'm a fly.
Leonard A. Hall
Don Bollinger, Mark Scheller and Howard Brickman, because we would geek out on wood science stuff. Sprigg Singleton Lynn, because I could listen to his deep knowledge on U.S. history and old flooring stories. Wayne Lee and Daniel Boone because they are still able to Git’r Done and have fun doing it. Wayne Highlander and Rob Johnson, because I love their podcast. Greggles, Corey and the founding members of the FDN club. And Fino because we can argue about WTF is a kilometer all day.
Dan Hawkes
I’d give my left arm to spend one more day with my grandfather.
Greg Kos
I work alone with my earbuds all day and will keep it that way. 🤣
Paul Kelly
Jerry Bowley, because he’s my hero. LOL
Daniel Springer
Mark Hanes, Glenn Harris or that one guy who made that WFB article about reverence. For some reason, I cannot remember his name, but I consistently rewatch his videos. Especially the one on YouTube about buffing. [Editor’s note: You can see all of Wayne Lee’s articles here.]
Toby Pope
Kris Jeter, the man, the myth, the legend for the laughs and the knowledge!
Alex Abraham
Justin Boone, Chuck Crispin, Dave Marzalek, Shaq, Michael Jordan and Larry Bird.
Kenneth Kelly
Troy Abbott if I’m going to Australia, Fino Oficio if I’m in Portugal and probably Sprigg Singleton Lynn in the U.S., because of all the history he works on.
Casey Ditsworth
I will supply lunch to anyone who chooses me.
Jim Bach
I was a one-man flooring company for 28 years. I loved working alone!
Ron Teljeur
Jason Vivash, Clint Fudge and Fino Oficio. All would be great, especially the ones requiring travel … explore different methods and materials.
Paul Wilke
This is a great question. I would love to spend a day with Sprigg Singleton Lynn on one of his historic restoration projects.
Stephen Young
I’ll take a day in the office with Ben Kimminau over being in the field with anyone.
James Toal
Reading this list is interesting. I’ve had the honor of working with many of the guys and gals mentioned in the comments. So of those I haven’t worked with, I’d like to sand with Clint and Lisa-Jane Fudge. For about an hour. Then he makes me an espresso and we chill for an hour or two. Then we go lunch. And he buys 😎, then we work for half hour and go back to his home, where Lisa Jane makes a meal that a king could only wish for.
Joe Lott
For me, Sprigg Singleton Lynn on experience and history in business and Leonard A. Hall, what can I say, straight up genius would run into war with him any day. As far as bros/pros, Mike Wong, David Harris, Todd Reeves, Silver Creek Hardwood Floors and Slabs I would run with any of these guys and tackle any project.
Phil Matthews
Ben Totta Hardwoods, I mean, have you seen that guy?!? Wow.
Charles Elrod
Sprigg Lynn.
Shannon Rivers
My mentor David Walls, RIP ... just sayin’ …
Steven Figueroa
I’ve always wanted to meet a guy who was huge in the LA area in the 90s; his name was Peter Gibson.
Che Polfliet
Master Emilio Manzano Andres. Just because we don't speak each other's language doesn't mean we don't understand each other. Master Leonard A. Hall. Because geometry isn't a language, but Master Lenny speaks it fluently.
Larry Broughton
50 Grit Flooring seems like a good guy, and a beast at anything to do with hardwood floors. I’m going on 17 years in flooring myself, but always want to learn more.
Donald C. Bouchard
Dave Marzalek. Howard Brickman, Chuck Crispin, Sprigg Lynn, Joe Boone Sr. Any one of these men can give you a lifetime's worth of invaluable knowledge in one day. I’ve spent a decent amount of time with a few of them, but this would make for one unforgettable, very valuable day.
Mark Dykstra
Greg Alexander Highplains Flooring. Forty years in the trade and still going strong!
Jeremiah Vino
Sprigg and his crew. They get to work on some amazing projects with deep roots in our history.
Robert Francis Welp
Fino Oficio and Susie are top-notch talent and company!
Matt Starbard
My father, who took the time to make me the man I am.
Greg Hocknell
Bobby Viola.
Ty Brooklyn Brown
Floors by the Shore for me, they are amazing. [Editor’s note: See the articles from Floor by the Shore’s Adam Bissey here.]
Linda Smith
Raymond Smith. Smith Hardwood Floors.
Matty Ducat
Self-Help Video Guy Tim Knox. He did things that a lot of people laughed at … and still do.
Jack Lawrence
Daniel Boone.
Clint Fudge
Anyone who supplies lunch.
Troy Abbott
