Two prominent wood floor trends are emerging for 2026 based on search insights from Houzz project management and design software: warm earth tones and character-rich woods.

After analyzing insights from over 70 million homeowners and activity from more than 3 million construction and design professionals, these two wood flooring preferences became apparent.

  • Warm earth tones: Specifically, designers on Houzz are fielding requests for nature-driven tones, rich wood stains, deep browns, taupes and other warm but neutral colors. Shifting away from cool gray palettes and desaturated finishes, homeowners are now gravitating toward warmth and visual depth in both modern and traditional spaces.
  • Character-rich woods: Interest in textured wood floors and classic stains is further emphasizing the surge in a softer traditional style. Homeowners are requesting character-rich woods that complement millwork, paneling and arched architectural features, Houzz reports.
