Jared Deveraux, the former general manager of Professional Floor Systems in Shelley, Idaho, was arrested following an investigation into the alleged theft of $40,000 from a Reno, Nev., nonprofit youth basketball program, according to a report from CBS affiliate KTVN in Reno.
When representatives of Reno Tropics were seeking to buy and install a hardwood basketball court, they were connected with 51-year-old Jared Deveraux who requested a $40,000 deposit for the court, according to the report said. The nonprofit wired the funds to the bank account listed on the invoice. Over the following months, Deveraux continued communicating with representatives of the nonprofit, leading them to believe that their court was being constructed.
In April 2026, Reno Tropics discovered that Professional Floor Systems had no record of the project, and that its staff and vice president were not aware of the deposit. According to investigators, the $40,000 payment was deposited directly into Deveraux’s personal bank account. They determined that construction of the basketball court never began.
The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office charged Deveraux with obtaining money by false pretense, possession of a forged instrument, uttering a forged instrument and theft. He is currently being held at the Bannock County Jail awaiting extradition to the Washoe County Jail with bail set at $50,000.
