On the latest episode of WFB’s All Things Wood Floor podcast, host Stephen Diggins speaks with Steve James, CEO of Frank Miller Lumber, about running a business focused on quartersawn lumber and enhancing company culture.
James was as CFO at General Motors before working in the lumber business, and he shares how insights from his role at GM informed his work at Frank Miller Lumber, as well as how his experience as part of the Maxwell Leadership Certified Team helped him transform the company culture
“We haven't had to look for employees really since pre-pandemic, since early 2019, probably,” says James, who had a career at General Motors before taking over the Indiana-based lumber company. “When we say company culture, it’s that you provide an atmosphere where they don't mind talking about problems, because they know that you're not going to just criticize them.”
