Truth be told, I could not get fired up yesterday. The long weekend work and the willpower it took to get that 3,000 feet done at night just wore me down. It used to be that I could work all day and night and recover (as they say around here) faster than a chicken on a June bug ... those were the days.
Yesterday I worked on an install that someone else did: a 100 foot stair landing, and my oh my, was it bad! I spent five hours with slivers and spot filling the small cracks. The bullnose 45s were so far apart that a saw blade could have fit in them. It looked like the drop saw was cutting off about 3-4 degrees because each cut was tight on one end and open on the other. I had the same trouble on the stairs: He did not cut any step straight, and the skirt board looks sad. We will make it look right with slivers and as little filler as we can. I may be working on stairs all day today, but we do what we need to do to get the task done. I did show the builder and let them know that my sand and finish will not cover the cost of repairing that much work. The home is wonderful and they did not shortcut anything other than the GC finding a guy to install the wood flooring for $1/foot. The mindset of "it is only wood" hurts our trade. They get to the end of the job, and the time and money is gone for the floor guy/woman.
Well, after reading the Inspector Blog about Craig making one guy cry and another mad, I can relate. It looks like the mad part will kick in when the GC gets my bill to fix all of this. Pay me now or pay me later!
