If the job would have been a pain, then yes, we would have talked about more funds and time, which is our norm for a change request on any job. If we get a change request, it is done in writing so all parties get a copy of the request.
We lost one more job to a low-price guy today again: $1.50 to install, and they told the homeowner that I was wrong about the pressboard. They said it is okay to install hardwood over that, and it was my way of running the cost up. Now, I could go and get the NWFA Installation Guidelines book out, but why fight the battle? Oh, and sand and finish (with rental sanders) with two coats of oil for $2.00-the guy will buff the floor to get any imperfections out. So there it is in a nutshell. However, a good friend called today out of the blue-Sprigg Lynn from Washington, D.C.-and his words of wisdom were, "They can always lower the price, but never raise the workmanship." That is so true.
