I want to thank Warren for his insight he added in the comment on my last blog post! His information not only got me to feel better about what we are doing but it all adds up. The flooring we took out was very long, in fact, most of them were 8-, 7- and 6-foot long; if I recall right, the shortest was 3-foot long. The subfloor is what I call shiplap-planks on a 45 throughout out the house.

It also was a very loud floor when folks walked across it, with pops all over the place. We feel like we are on target as we are doing it here; as I've mentioned before, our only hangup is the high RH in the summer time. Crawl space vents hurt us so much, and when we inform folks about that, they look at us like we have two heads.
I got a call about what finish I use to give me the "old" look for the poly. I add some stain to Fabulon and roll it on with a white dove ¼" nap. It adds just enough age and the look they like. I add somewhere in the amount of 6 ounces to 1 gallon; make sure you keep mixing the finish so that it will not all sit on the bottom. (Yes, I checked with the manufacturer before I actually did this-I don't do tailgate lab work.)
One more call I got was about the Nano water base finish. Nathan works for Rust-Oleum, and if you need to talk to him, you can reach him via e-mail at [email protected].
Back to work... I took the old flooring to the city landfill, then ran over to the mill to get the flooring and took that to the job site and got it in and ready to become one with the house.
The fun part of the day was that Rebeka, my oldest baby, ate dinner with Dad. Got to love that! You know how you need your kids to help you get your touch phone working right again... well, she made Daddy happy with that, too. (OK, if you are making fun of me, here's a thought: Kids today can do all kinds of stuff with laptops and phones, but ask them to make a fire with two sticks and see who is asking for help?)
Anyway, after dinner I went back to the mill and got wood for the next job so it will be ready for us in a week or so. I did all that today because the rain is coming for the next few days; it is a pain when you have to make adjustments for rain. The homeowner was glad to hear I was coming because it means one more step to the remodel being done. This is the same job where we had to install tile on the floor that was out 3/4 inch in 8 feet... not fun. We got the kitchen area ready for the other work being done and now we are going back to finish the mudroom and install the wood in the great room.
Not sure why, but it seems like it is getting slow again-not many calls for estimates, I hope the phone starts to ring again.
Well, you all be safe.
