This is the house with the ugly, disgusting carpet pad. I had to match the stain and use a poly that looked old from the start. I inlaid the door so that we did not have to sand the bedrooms; the hard part was the stain. It is Gunstock with medium brown and the poly to make it look old. It is very close in tone and look: It has 50-year-old shellac finish on one side and the other side is brand new with stain and two coats of poly. The homeowner was very happy with the repair and asked me how we got it all so flat. Here are a couple pics:

The funny thing was the house was due for a review for a bank loan. The guy doing the inspection gave me a look like "no way" we can match the stain and he said we might not be able to make it all look as good as the old floors. Well... once he came back to make sure the work was done before he gave them the loan, he told the homeowner it looked great and he could not find the repair area. He saw it before we started, but he could not find the boards we worked on.
Take that to the bank is all I can say.
Now we should get one more job from this one because the homeowner is well-known around town and he has friends in the know as well...keep your fingers crossed.
