We are still working on the tear-out job, it is wild the amount of stuff in one home.
We are helping her move some of the things in the extra bedrooms...it took 2 hours to remove the stuff in one 12 x 12 bedroom. NO JOKE.
I wanted to take a photo but it would not show what we dug out. Stuff brand new in the box that she thinks she needs or might need.
My hat is off to her for trying.
Now on to the job, we are taking up the pressboard and I have tried many ways to do it easy and fast. I used to cut both sides of the nails, take up the small piece and pull the nails, break it up… and it all leads to a big mess. Now we use what I call a cat's paw to pull the nails and lift up full sheets.
It does go fast and if they nail it right each sheet will have 30 to 35 nails. Clifford was not sure of my madness at first, but he said it is faster and easy. Joey and I would work together and they would make fun of my little hammer. But I can do anything they can do with that little wood-handle hammer. I have even done some framing with that dude. My joke is that it is not the hammer, it is the man with the hammer.
Speaking of that, here's an old-school joke: A foreman was looking for a new carpenter. After a few folks he got it down to three and asked them to show their skills with a hammer. The first guy did flips and double flips like a clown in the show. Looked great to the other two! The next guy pulled his best Old West quick-draw act...flipping it in and out of his tool belt like a cowboy. Now there was the last man standing; the boss man said, "Well, what you got?" The man took out a handfull of nails and drove them in without a miss or bent nail. The boss man was so taken aback he said, "You got the job; I am tired of hammer flippers, all I need is folks to drive nails and build a house." HA HA, take that, boys...
We hope to be done Friday, but the amount of things to move is slowing us down. I am okay with that because she is a sweet lady with a big life change ahead.
I did an estimate on the way home today and dang if this is not looking like a free job. It is a kitchen that had a water leak and the last installer went over pressboard, so you know that it all has to come out to fix it. The hard part is this guy is single and on his way back to the Middle East for the second time! We spoke for a few and he shared with me some personal information. He is a medic; he has seen some ugly stuff. He lost his friend in a firefight, it was a hard... and a very hard story to hear. I asked him, "Why are you going back?" He said, "Love what I do and I can save lives when doing what I love." I was so lucky to be in the presence of an AMERICAN HERO. God bless our men and women serving our great country; drop a prayer for them as we go about our day.
Well, it is late and the bed is calling my name, be safe.
