The weekend of the 4th is coming and I want you to think of yourselves as bar owners, not flooring company owners. Why? It is because you have the right to refuse service to anyone. Last time I talked about the being a fulfilled and humble business owner, and the fulfillment part can be hard if you're always working for difficult clients and having difficulty in projects.
While the weekend is here I want everyone to think about the best projects they have had and why they were the best. Think about the worst projects and where they went wrong and why they were difficult. If you really sit down over the weekend, then you should have a clear picture of who is your ideal client and project and who is not the ideal client. Your goal from this day forward should be to find more of the good clients and don't waste too much time chasing the bad ones.
Now that you have a clear picture of your ideal client and project, then you have the key to the city, so to speak. It is because you can put your energy into featuring the good projects and talking about your specialties on a blog. If you are reading this right now, then you have the ability to start a blog. It is free and you don't have to have a fancy website to begin. It may sound simple, but the hardest part of marketing is doing it.
Your ideal clients are out there looking for information on the Internet more than you realize these days. The phone needs to be ringing for you to be able to turn away the crazy people and work for the good ones. I'm going to talk a whole lot about strategies we've used in our marketing to attract the right projects soon enough.
In the meantime, to anyone who is reading this do me a favor and send me an e-mail to [email protected] or leave a comment and let me know you're out there and what you want to change in your business. We are peers and that's why I write for the blog-to help out my peers.
