It seems like the jobs we get are so bad that it takes a ton of work to make it happen. Here is the photo of the before on the latest pee stain job. There was old carpet down on the floor with some stains… just a few:
Take a look at the after:
Not bad, but I am ready to do a new floor. This took some time but it was worth it. We made the homeowners very happy!
I took the wood out to the next job, and the downside is it is a long drive-in Brownsville, Tenn., at the edge of how far we can go to make money without adding a hotel cost in the job. It's a small job but should be a fun job-340 feet of walnut install, sand and finish. Yay for us having a new floor and a sand job that will not take 16 grit to start. This job is going to be an easy install and an odd sand and finish. They said they do not want it "great" just "good"… now what does that mean?
It is going to be a soft plate and OBS 18 DC sander job; I'll just get out the mill marks, buff in the stain and be done. I will take photos of this one! I also have a heart pine floor to do the same thing to in Humbolt, Tenn. It will be nice to get to touch new wood for a bit.
The phone is a bit slow right now but that is okay-we have work for a few weeks and this will allow me the time for the NWFA class and to get the work done. The class should be fun and the time off will be nice; I've been at it hard for a while. How dumb is that: get some time off and go work at the Expert School. I must say that this is the hardest one to teach because it is all hands-on, with no real class time. Frank did ask me to do a breakout class on edgers and buffer skills, so I will go through the big machine with my height tools and scales to show folks how to tie the PSI in with the grit. I still tell folks that the machine is not a sander... it is a paper turner. "Think about the grit, not the machine" are just some of the many words of wisdom I've learned over the years.
That brings me to a new topic: What is the best advice you were given over the years? I have been thinking about that; I am going to try to write down some of my favorites and share them with you. It won't be just work; I'm going to share life's words of wisdom. A Wayne's Top 10, if you will allow.
I am home waiting for a bit to come via UPS. Mine is chipped and I need to drop in three vents. I hit a nail head and mine is done-one nail, and now it won't cut for beans. My mistake, so I have to just get a new one. We have to cut in the vents, then pad and coat the floor with the last coat. It's not much-6oo plus feet- so it should be done Wednesday.
Well, the last thing is: Let's go, Cardinals! I am glad they got the wildcard bid.
