The past few weeks it has been a joy to work with Gary, a young man on his way overseas with the Army. He is in college, but his unit is shipping out to Afghanistan, so he could not sign up for class this term. He needed a job for a few weeks, but no one would hire him for the short-term, so he asked if he could help out for a few weeks and, well, it is just the right thing to do. He has been a big help and I have enjoyed working with him. Here he is with the big machine down a hallway; he did a bunch of tasks for us and picked up on stuff fast:

He needed a job for a few weeks, but no one would hire him for the short-term, so he asked if he could help out for a few weeks and, well, it is just the right thing to do. Thank you very much for all your help, and please be safe!
Now, on to our next job that has taken us to the heavy grit again. The repair area is from a longtime water damage problem, and it was rotten to the subfloor, as you can see:
The fix was easy but along the long run of the wall we had to do some repairs. (Sorry I forgot to take a photo.) The trim could not be taken off to make it easy-the wallpaper was fixed to the baseboard, and I did not want to mess with all that.
I took my sweet time getting the bad flooring out, and getting it back in was the tough part. It all worked out, so all was well, but just when you think you are coasting downhill the grit hits the fan, so to speak. We had to start with 3 1/2 grit and work up to 2/0 ... now, I do not mind working the edger, but this was long day. The big machine was a OK-we got it off with 2 grit and finished with 1/2 grit. Once we got that done, we cut it with 1/2 on the 3DS and finished with 2/0. I was out of Monocoat, so we had to stop and order some. We got the floor ready for the 3/0 shake-and-bake and it all should be done first thing in the morning. We had the finish sent right to the job site so that I do not have to sit here and wait for it.
I will post more on this job when you can see it done. We also have jobs lined up, including one that will be a real task I will tell you about.
And, again, I just wanted to pass on my best to Gary and hope and pray he will be safe during his deployment overseas.
