Providing accurate color and finish samples for customers is a frequent challenge for wood flooring contractors and retailers. Contractor Charlie Marrs of Marrs Fabulous Hardwood Floors in Olympia, Wash., remembers one funny incident in that regard. As he tells it: “The first guy I ever worked for in this trade was ... well, I’ll just call him Crazy Dan from Spokane. Our clients asked, ‘What does the natural finish look like on red oak?’ It was a Saturday, so he thought it was okay to drink beer on the job site. He poured some Olympia beer on the floor, rubbed it around with his foot and said, ‘That’s what it’s going to look like.’”
