João Dias, owner at Lisbon-based Fino Oficio, had a high-end job recently where a stressed-out customer had a knee-jerk reaction after seeing the floor he had chosen, a European engineered oak with a custom texture and no knots:
“My client arrived in the middle of unloading, and he went bananas because he didn’t like the floor. He said, ‘I specifically asked for a top-line engineered oak WITH NO KNOTS … I don’t like this!’ The customer is actually an amazing guy, and we have a great relationship built on trust; he was just overstressed with all the construction and wasn’t even thinking clearly anymore. So I let him have a fit and didn’t tell him right away that he was actually looking at the ply back.”
