Readers Respond: What Do You Say to Customers Thinking of Getting LVP?

Lvp

We asked readers on Facebook and Instagram what they say when their customers mention they are considering LVP. Here’s what they said:

Troy Stanfield

What’s your view on plastic straws?

Michael Stevens

It's great for filling up dumpsters. 🤣

Gregg Pierce

They’re good for basements…That’s it.

Joe Dawson

Have at it … call me when you want a Real Floor. 👌

Craig Charleston

That's a great way to make your $850K home feel like a $450K rental.

Clinton Duff

There are choices to be made on what product best suits your needs.

Timothy Fosness

If my client's budget allows for LVP, it likely doesn’t allow for wood. I’ll install it and thank them for the work. I’ll find a health-conscious option that doesn’t have lead, phthalates or VOCs.

Bowersox Floor Center

Let’s find you the proper LVP for your home and substrate. With our professional installation crews, you’ll be tickled with your new floors.

Don Jeter

3.49/sqft, $150 freight, 6% sales tax, ships in 3-5 business days, 100% down on material. Thank you so much for your support of my small business. If I'm gonna miss out on thousands of dollars, then I deserve to stay poor.

Craig Charleston

LVT? Have you considered RLWF?

Michael Howick

Don't.

Kittrell Sawmill Appraisers and Brokers

When building your home, buy your hardwood flooring before digging your footer. That way, it’s paid for before you spend money on other things that you would never trade hardwood flooring for. Just saying.

Myriam GR

I tell my clients it’s garbage. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dan Natkin

Don’t do it! In 3 to 5 years, you will regret your decision.

Paul - Odie's Oil Flooring Division

Most customers have unrealistic expectations of these fake products because they've been lied to. Education is key, and often, when fairly and clearly explained, "real" should always prevail over "fake." The chemicals alone (not only going into these products, but coming out of them, living with them) should be enough to not ever consider vinyl. I wouldn't want my family on it on a daily basis.

Dave Marzalek

Don’t get me going. LOL.

Bob Patterson

You say I do that and do it … or don’t. After 40 years in the industry, had I not started installing engineered flooring decades ago, I would have lost out on a lot of money. I was solid installing sand and finishing before then. I am retired now, bought a 4,000-square-foot ranch house in Georgia, all LVP. It’s not nearly as beautiful, but it’s fine. It is pretty much indestructible. I was going to change it but decided not to.

Sean Tupper

They got rid of laminates because they said this stuff was better. Turns out it’s far worse. I show this video to all my customers who want it. And yes, I know you can’t sand a solid one 25 times. He’s obviously trying to make a point.

Dayton Hardwood Co

Good day, sir. 😤

Epic Hardwood Floors, LLC

We have a price for that. 🙌🏽

Fino Oficio

Av. do Brasil 53, 1700-063 Lisboa.

(That’s the address for our Mental Hospital in Portugal…)

Marco De La Peza

I'll bring samples!

Dan Hawkes

LVP/T has its own issues. Not to mention the cost of them rising constantly and the quality diminishing. Just my take. Hardwood floors are the only flooring material that can be made new over and over.

Sweetwood Flooring

Consider other options that aren’t bad for your health. I would never put it in my own house. It all ends up in the landfill and provides no value to your home; you may as well throw the money away.

Clean Image Flooring

It’s dangerous.

Jim Hyde

Call someone else.

NickZeb

It’s zero investment in your home.

Jesse Avila

Every flooring type has a home; it's about the job site condition, which will determine if it is a good fit.

Dmufford

I typically discourage them from it for many reasons. I feel a European-made laminate is superior to any vinyl on the market.

Matthew Joel

Why get a plastic floor when hardwood will increase the value overnight? 🙌

Johnyy_215

I say I don’t install plastic, that stuff isn’t good for your health.

Maxamilian Tarpey

You mean linoleum for millennials? Sure, we do that, too.

Mark meidra

I say PERGO. 🤢🤢🤢🤢

Dan Moskal

Straight to jail.
