Single-family housing starts decreased 4.2 percent in July, according to housing data released Tuesday by the U.S. Commerce Department. Single-family housing starts in July reached an annual rate of 432,000 units, down from a revised June rate of 451,000 units. However, overall housing starts were up 1.7 percent in July, reaching an annual rate of 546,000 units; the June overall rate was 537,000 units.
