Theft, forgery, identity theft and conspiracy-that's the rap sheet of charges against a Pennsylvania woman accused of embezzling about $150,000 from a wood flooring company after one of its owners passed away, according to the Delaware County News Network.
Authorities in Delaware arrested and arraigned Dorothy J. Miller last week. The investigation began in December 2008 after the death of John Summers, who, along with his wife Kimberly Summers, owned Summers Hardwood Floors in Sharon Hill, Pa.
ABC 6 filed this report:
After her husband's death, Kimberly Summers discovered a trail of misdeeds allegedly perpetrated by Miller, who was hired to administer Summers Hardwood Floors in early 2005. Kimberly Summers discovered an unauthorized credit card in her name, in addition to discovering unauthorized use of personal and business checking accounts through signatures forged by Miller. Miller's misuse of the Summers' personal and business checking accounts totaled $98,183.18. Miller also allegedly forged Kimberly Summers' name on a loan application for a $50,000 business equity line of credit.
"I would like to remind the public that the implementation and use of basic accounting safeguards is imperative in every business, large or small, in order to avoid, deter, and minimize the types of fraud committed in this case", Delaware County District Attorney John "Jack" Whelan told Delaware County News Network.
