The state of New York has expanded a quarantine on ash wood products including ash nursery stock, any part of ash trees, and firewood from any species to prevent the spread of the emerald ash borer, according to the Associated Press.
While the state has banned the movement of untreated firewood since 2008, on Wednesday it replaced local quarantines with a single ban covering all or parts of 42 counties.
The city of Syracuse and Onandaga County were notified last month of the first find of an emerald ash borer in that county.
