MacDonald Hardwoods (Denver) asked 205 interior designers across the country how their customers made decisions related to wood flooring and published its findings in 2016 Hardwood Flooring Customer Preference Survey.
Wide planks, modern aesthetic, darker stains and engineered floors were identified as the top four styles by designers. When a customer calls for a flooring change, 48 percent of designers use engineered hardwood flooring, 44 percent choose solid hardwood flooring, 4 percent select laminate and 4 percent chose “other.”
Sixty-three percent of designers prefer to use hardwood throughout the entire home instead of as an accent in a few rooms.
The most important factor for customers buying hardwood floors was durability, followed by aesthetics and cost.
