Fire Starts in Gym Trash Can Containing Flooring Rags

A high school basketball court in Carter County, Tenn., suffered a ring of damage after a fire started in a trash can containing flooring rags, according to WJHL.

The fire started inside a trash can that contained rags soaked with chemicals that were used to “strip the gym floor” at Unaka High School, according to the news report. It was quickly contained and no one was injured. The cause is still under investigation.

Improperly discarded rags used to stain and finish flooring are known to spontaneously combust. HF blogger Wayne Lee shared a few tips for preventing fires on the job site in this video blog.
