Brazil included wood in its list of materials that require sustainable procurement practices, which is an official endorsement of wood from sustainably managed forests, according to Fordaq.
The move is part of the country’s implementation of its Action Plan for Prevention and Control of Deforestation in the Amazon and Cerrado, which aims to lessen deforestation while expanding markets for wood products.
The new rule still needs to be fleshed out and disseminated by the Brazilian Forest Service.
