Silo Collapse Kills Worker at Hardwood Flooring Plant

One man is dead after a silo collapsed at a QEP hardwood flooring plant in Johnson City, Tenn.

James Reed was reportedly spray-cleaning sawdust off of the inside walls of the silo Saturday, March 10, when 30 feet of sawdust collapsed on him, according to Johnson City Press and WKRN.

A coworker said he saw sawdust come out of the door of the silo and that the boom lift Reed was using appeared to be buried in sawdust. He went to check another entrance of the silo, but it was “plugged” with sawdust. Reed’s body was discovered by first responders and he was immediately pronounced dead.
