
Cruz has been a leading advocate for aid for Puerto Rico since it was devastated by Hurricane Maria in September 2017, which left the U.S. territory without power and killed more than 3,000 people.
“Cruz’s diligence and tenacity in recovery and rebuilding Puerto Rico serves as an inspiration to all of us in the green building community who are committed to creating a safer, healthier and more resilient built environment for future generations,” U.S. Green Building Council Senior VP of Conferences and Events Kate Hurst said in a statement.
The Closing Plenary is set for Friday, Nov. 16 from 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago.
