A contractor and property owner who were ‘burn-staining’ a hardwood floor ended up causing more than $30,000 in damage, according to Gazettextra.
Firefighters responded to the call at 8:10 p.m. Oct. 12 in Janesville, Wis., and quickly put out the fire, which was not visible from the building’s exterior but produced a large amount of smoke.
The fire department’s investigation determined that two points of the fire’s origin were caused by the burn-staining.
The contractor had been burn-staining the floor until 3:30 p.m. that afternoon and hadn’t noticed any problems at the time, according to the report.
