The United States employment market added 206,000 jobs in June, down from the 218,000 added in May, according to the latest U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report.
The largest job gains were in the government and health care sectors, which collectively accounted for 75% of jobs added in June.
Government jobs rose by 70,000 in June, with the health care sector adding 49,000 jobs and the construction industry adding 27,000 jobs.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate in June rose to 4.1% from 4.0% in May, with the number of unemployed people at 6.8 million, according to BLS.
Unemployment has risen from last year when it sat at 3.6% in June 2023 and the number of unemployed people was 6.0 million.
