Construction Employment Increases in 32 States in September

Construction employment increased in 32 states in September, the Associated General Contractors of America reports. Construction employment slid in 17 states and remained unchanged in Arkansas and D.C.

New York added the most construction jobs during the month, with 5,300, a growth of 1.5%. It was followed by Louisiana, which added 5,000 jobs, and Washington, which added 4,200.

Illinois lost the most construction jobs from August to September, shedding 3,000, or 1.4%. It was followed by Oregon, which lost 2,600 construction jobs, and Iowa, which lost 2,500.

Compared with February, the last month before the COVID-19 outbreak, seasonally adjusted construction employment remains lower in 42 states.
