Festool Parent Company Purchases Shaper Tools

TTS Tooltechnic Systems, the parent company of Festool (Lebanon, Ind.) purchased Shaper Tools (San Francisco), the developer of Origin, a hand-held CNC machine.

Shaper Tools will maintain its name and brand in the transition, and its current management will remain in place.

“Together with the software experts from Shaper Tools, further trend-setting offers are to be developed for the customer,” TTS Tooltechnic Systems said in a statement.

The Origin functions like a smart router and, after mapping out a surface with its camera, cuts based on the depth and width selected on its touch-screen or a CAD file uploaded via USB or Wi-Fi by the user. The user can then glide the tool over a surface while viewing the design path on the Origin’s real-time screen, the blade retracting whenever it gets wobbled off its programed course.

The Shaper Origin brand began sales in early 2018 with more than 20 employees. Shaper had previously worked with Festool on the design and manufacturing of the router spindle on the Origin.
