Contractors tend to have numerous crazy animal stories, but Bill Powell III of B. Powell Flooring in Earlton, N.Y., was told a story about a dog who seemed to have superdog powers. As he tells it: “Back in the late ’90s we were sanding and finishing the wood floors on a second-story apartment being renovated. I put a final coat of oil-base on and went back the next day to get my final check, and the homeowner told me, ‘The craziest thing happened—a stray dog came running in, ran up the stairs and laid down in the finish.’ I asked, ‘What happened to him?’ and he replied, ‘We went up to get him and he jumped out the window.’ I was pretty astonished that the dog jumped out the window of the second floor, but I told the guy, ‘No problem, I’ll take care of it.’ We recoated the floor, and as I was waiting for him to write out my final check, my helper noticed the owner’s big long-haired dog—and he had leaves stuck all over his belly.”
